Established 1996

Three decades of windows, beautifully dressed.

Independent, family-run by founder Kath Goddard since 1996, and proud of the work we do for customers across Cumbria and South West Scotland.

Meet Kath

It started with one small shop, one workshop, and a lot of pins.

Kath Goddard started Kath’s Curtains in Carlisle in 1996, and opened the first shop on Nelson Street soon after. The plan was simple. Make beautiful, properly finished curtains and blinds for the people of Carlisle, and treat every customer the way you’d want your own family treated.

As the business grew, so did the need for space. We moved across town to our current, much larger premises on West Tower Street, and we’ve been here ever since. The extra room meant hundreds more sample books out on the rails, and a bigger workshop behind the showroom to make them all up in.

Thirty years on, Kath is still here. Still measuring up, still talking through fabric choices, still making sure every order leaves the workshop properly finished. The team has grown, the customer list has grown, and the work has stretched from Carlisle out across Cumbria and South West Scotland, covering everything from a single bay window in a cottage to full curtain schemes for some of the region’s best-known hotels.

What hasn’t changed is the way we work. Independent. Family-run. Everything made in-house. No pressure, no fuss, just properly made curtains and blinds.

How we work

The way we’ve always done it.

No high-pressure sales, no “deals” that aren’t deals. Just honest advice, properly-made products, and a fair price.

01

You visit, or we visit

Come and see us at the showroom, or book a no-obligation home visit. We’ll talk through your room, the light, the use, and your budget.

02

Choose your fabric

Take sample books home, live with them for a few days, see them in your light. There’s no rush, the right fabric is worth waiting for.

03

Made in our workshop

Hand-finished by our own team. Hems, linings, headings, weights, all the things that turn fabric into a curtain you’ll love.

04

Tracks & poles supplied

We can supply and fit the right track, pole or rail for your window, including bay windows, deep returns and difficult angles.

05

Fitted, if you’d like

We’re happy to hang everything we make, tracks and poles included. If you’d rather take your curtains away and put them up yourself, that’s absolutely fine too. Just tell us which you’d prefer.

06

And we’re here afterwards

Need a curtain altering after a move, or a tieback adding next year? Pop in. Properly-made curtains last decades, and so does our service.

What you might wonder

The questions we’re often asked.

Do you cover my area?

We make and fit across Cumbria and South West Scotland, from Carlisle out into the Eden Valley and the Lake District, and over the border into Gretna, Dumfries, the Solway coast and the Scottish Borders. Drop us a line if you’re unsure.

How much does it cost?

Honestly, it depends, the fabric, the window size, the heading, the linings. The best way is to come in or have us visit. We’ll give you a fully itemised, no-obligation quote.

How long does it take?

Most made-to-measure orders are ready in three to four weeks from the day we have your final fabric choice and confirmed measurements. Some bespoke fabrics take longer, we’ll always tell you upfront.

Can I bring my own fabric?

Yes, we’re happy to make up curtains and blinds from customer-supplied fabric. Bring it in and we’ll quote on the make-up cost.

Drop by the showroom, the kettle’s usually on.
